Twitter logoFor those of you who twitter, you can follow along with namethis by … well … following @namethis.  All new projects are announced and reminders of time running down are announced as well.  It’s a great way to spread the coolness that is namethis throughout the internets, to all your best buds.

Also, it’s really hard to not tell you guys about all the new features coming down the pike, and I also hate to over promise, but we still got a hopper full of cool, new stuff for yinz, real soon now.  I’m guessing later this week, early next week will be the time frame that it starts hitting the production site.

Unicorns and daffodils,

  • jak on August 26th, 2008:

surprised more kluster folk are not regular twitter users. there are a lot of “x days ago” as your last posts listed up there

  • Stacy Prince on August 26th, 2008:

Here, little unicorn! I’ve got some nice sunshine and rainbow glitter for you to munch on.

Off topic, has anyone else noticed that there are just TONS of great names on the Mobile Phone Wipe contest? The best ever, I think, in terms overall quality and usefulness to the client. (This is unbiased commentary; I’m sitting that one out.) Kudos or Yunits* or Yunos* or whatever to everyone! (*For those of us who’ve been awhile and recall trying to rename “kudos”…)

  • Kristen on August 31st, 2008:

The payment issues are still a huge concern. I know you guys want transparency, so can you give us any assurances that our money earned months ago is set aside and in line before other creditors. Also, any answer to the suggestion of writing checks for anything over a certain amount. The money owed is significant. I want to and have recommended the site to others, but I hesitate when I don’t have confidence that I will see the full amount owed. I’m sure your intentions are good, but it feels like you’re stalling in order to hold onto the money when you could just send out checks.

  • blaster on August 31st, 2008:

@kristen…money earned on (sub-par) articles a la the Knewsroom era? Let kluster keep it…They don’t owe us a damn thing from Knewsroom.

  • Matthew Cua on September 1st, 2008:

@blaster, a lot of people spent hours doing their articles, so I don’t think it is right for you to generally say that it was “subpar”. Although it is true that some articles really sucked, kluster owes them money. If it is unfair then let those people invest it back to kluster, like making their own kluster, but other than that we couldn’t do anything about it.

  • Kristen on September 1st, 2008:

Blaster, you can let them keep your money, but I worked for hours writing articles for knewsroom and expect to be paid. Some articles may have been sub-par, but they were all within the rules that kluster set out for payment. If namethis shuts downs, would you say that the money earned should also not be paid because some of the names are crappy. Money owed is money owed. If kluster gets the reputation for doing what you suggest, no one would or should spend a minute on them. They wrote the terms, we didn’t. What you are suggesting is theft.

  • Christina Lewis on September 1st, 2008:

I agree with Kristen and Matthew both. For a solid month, I spent hours and hours researching information for fresh articles, and then I spent more time formatting that information into something readable and, hopefully, very enjoyable. The thought of not being paid for all the time and effort I, and a lot of other worthy people, invested in Knewsroom doesn’t sit well at all.

I’m still holding out hope that Knewsroom might be resurrected someday, even though Kluster focus has shifted onto other projects. I feel like Knewsroom was a great idea that was cast aside a little too soon.

  • Christina Lewis on September 1st, 2008:

I should add that, while some original articles on Knewsroom were “sub-par”, to lump ALL those articles into the sub-par category is a huge insult to a good number of people who generated good material. Knewsies worked their fingers to the bone to produce those articles, and there was some good stuff in there!

  • matt on September 1st, 2008:

@christina (on resurrection) we’re all ears if you want to shoot us an email with a revenue model you think works for knewsroom.

  • Christina Lewis on September 1st, 2008:

Whoa, Matt, thank you so much. I’ll email you in a few days with that. Again, thank you so much…

  • Kristen on September 1st, 2008:

Christina - I would love to work with you on that if you want to collaborate. I felt the same way - knewsroom was dropped too soon in my opinion and I think there’s still a chance for it to be viable.

  • Christina Lewis on September 2nd, 2008:

Kirsten, I would totally welcome the help. How can I get in touch with you?

  • Matthew Cua on September 2nd, 2008:

I also believe that knewsroom was dropped to early, well at least the concept.

I do have some ideas, but i still can’t properly convey it yet >.<

  • Christina Lewis on September 2nd, 2008:

Matthew, I understand how that goes! Perhaps we should form a Knewsroom Resurrection team. :)

  • matt on September 2nd, 2008:

Why don’t you guys sign up for a private kluster? It would be great for this kind of collaboration. Just don’t name the private kluster “knewsroom” ’cause that’ll break.

  • Allison Reynolds on September 2nd, 2008:

    * Ben Kaufman: wonders if we can launch 4 sites in 6 weeks about an hour ago

    Interesting!!!

  • Matthew Cua on September 3rd, 2008:

    @ Christina : Sure !

@ Matt : Don’t worry I am going to start a new kluster for my organization here in school, I just convinced them to join hahaha

  • Matthew Cua on September 3rd, 2008:

    Okay, started another private kluster.

Which brings me to ask if we could add our organization’s logo in the website.

  • matt on September 3rd, 2008:

@matthew you can add your organization’s name to the background and your organizations colors to the whole site, but there isn’t currently a way to add your organization’s logo to the site. sorry.

  • Christina Lewis on September 3rd, 2008:

Coolidge, Matthew! What’s the URL address?

  • Matthew Cua on September 3rd, 2008:

@matt, I hope soon you will allow us to do so ^_^

@Christina, I have another Private Kluster I am not using, do you want to use it for Knewsroom revival ? (Is Coolidge a suggestion of a name ?)

  • shawnee on September 4th, 2008:

question: how does one remove a person from their “connections” list? there does not seem to be an option to do so; or if there is, i have not found it. if there’s even an iota of correlation between . . . well, let’s just say i wouldn’t be entirely upset if a certain frequent sweep-winning submitter were run over by a herd of unicorns.

  • Christina Lewis on September 4th, 2008:

*falls over laughing!* Matthew! First, I think the extra private Kluster might be just the ticket. Would you like to spearhead the Knewsroom Resurrection thing and get it started? I’m sure we’ll have a bunch of Knewsies brainstorming together in no time.

Secondly, “Coolidge” is an expression my family uses all the time - instead of just plain “Cool.” It also happens to be the name of a city in Arizona. I have no idea if it actually works for a name, but if you like it, there’s no copyright on it!

  • Justin Thiele on September 4th, 2008:

New features are great and all, but I can’t help to think that debugging the current features might be a higher priority. I’ve been trying to load a payout for a couple of days but it keeps erroring out. I’ve emailed payments@kluster.com and haven’t gotten a response. Frustrating.

  • Rusty on September 4th, 2008:

Why does it appear that only Troy Tessalone win? And most times all three spots. Seem that someone has figured out how to game the system. Not too useful for the poor guys that paid up $99 for a truly unique name.

  • Matthew Cua on September 4th, 2008:

    @Christina

Coolidge is a win name ! I’ll start the private kluster for Knewsroom revival when I get back from school tonight. Coolidge would be the temporary name because it is cool hahaha.

    @Rusty

About Troy, he has been winning since he is submitting lots of really good names, the kluster admins, have already looked into it and that there is no gaming (see previous comments waaay back before). Why not add better names ? so that troy doesn’t win all the time ^_^

  • Christina Lewis on September 4th, 2008:

*laughs!* Delighted, Matthew. Please do post a URL for Coolidge when it’s up!

  • Rusty on September 5th, 2008:

Re Troy. Wow. All wins by Troy legit? He has won all three places in each of the contests over the last day…..really amazing! Why both with a site…just have the suckers pay Troy directly for his top three names.

  • Matthew Cua on September 5th, 2008:

Re Troy, Namethis is all about the best names, if in case that one person gives the top three names, then so be it. It just goes to show that Namethis is all about great names, sure Troy is getting lots more watts but the algorithm works not just by the amount of watts. So trust Kluster/Namethis and add some names :D

  • Martin Möhwald on September 5th, 2008:

It is about time to bring in blind submissions. Do not get me wrong, I think the names that won the last contests had their quality. But a system where investors can not see (or atleast hardly) in which persons name they are investing, would be the only proof that people are really investing in names that they like most. And not persons who they think will win as they have a high winning ratio.

  • Stacy Prince on September 5th, 2008:

Blind submissions favor the best names, not the best namers (if that makes sense). Let’s do it!

  • Matthew Cua on September 5th, 2008:

I agree in blind submissions as well :D

  • kluster FCK » Blog Archive » Pile On on September 5th, 2008:

Alright, Knewsie hopefuls! I submitted a starting point to hopefully get the Knewsroom project off the ground again.

    Thanks!

  • Frank on September 24th, 2008:

Blind Submissions will only help to a certain extend. If I tell all my friends via email to vote for a certain name I can create the same effect to some extend. Just my opinion…

  • Stacy Prince on September 24th, 2008:

@ Frank — While it’s true blind submissions can’t completely stop people from trying to cheat the system, the Kluster team is sure to notice egregious gaming (and has dealt with it in the past). The fact is that it takes an awful lot of energy and time to keep a big gaggle of cheater-friends and rotate them appropriately and contact them and tell them what to vote for in a way that won’t get picked up by Matt and Ben and Hitch. (A more likely way of gaming the system would be to check and see what others have invested in, but that can also be time-consuming.) What blind submissions DO do is to make names stand on their own, so those of us who might be tempted to favor a “good enough” name by a reliable winner, or even a friend, will actually be more likely to vote for the names we think are the most marketable.

Now the real question is…do you vote for the name you hope will win, or the name you think will win? :-)

  • Justin on October 3rd, 2008:

wowza, that is a lot of spam!!
