card load-a-palooza

by ben - September 11th, 2008

Looks like our payoneer account just got funded…

Go ahead and give your load requests a shot, hopefully everything is back online & running.

Please report in the comments if your transfers were successful, we have no way of testing this on our end.

Thanks for your patience, awesomeness, and willingness to help me send words of encouragement to Mike Lacy to finish the new namethis feature that is holding up it’s relaunch ;)

Daffodils and Leprechauns,

Ben

Loaded instantly. Now just three more days….

The total 40 days of waiting time seems, well, biblical. Did you do this from on high to teach us something? :-)

    Thanks,
    Moses

  • Christina Lewis on September 12th, 2008:

    Card loaded. Thank you Kluster!

  • Alexey on September 13th, 2008:

You know what might be an interesting feature? I think one of the biggest places with room for improvement is the way the candidate names are presented. Having an RSS feed for each project and for each suggestion within each project, and then a ‘callback url’ which lets somebody add watts externally (say, namethis.com/addwatts?projectID=2652&submissionID=263&numwatts=200&submitterKey=23987423kjbsdf48kj2430kjlsf03 ) would let users play with different ways of displaying the submissions. The best ideas could be open-sourced and hosted by namethis as ‘alternate views’. Things would need to be hosted by the kluster team to ensure that no one is data-mining others’ picks, of course, but I for one would love an interface that, instead of showing me a big list, shows me groups of items and lets me, for example, pick the best ones by squaring them off (A vs B? C vs D? win1 vs win2? submit win3). I’m sure there are more interesting ways, and I’d love to see what the community oculd come up with.

Cool, Alexey. Or, as some would say, Coolidge!

  • Sunil on September 14th, 2008:

Is Payoneer the only option for withdrawing? I had asked earlier if you would offer PayPal as a payment option. Please let me know!

  • jak on September 14th, 2008:

@ben - thanks for pointing me in the right direction and thanks for the update.

  • matt on September 15th, 2008:

@sunil For the foreseeable future, yes.

  • Sunil on September 16th, 2008:

    @matt
Matt, I’m not a Mastercard holder. How am I supposed to withdraw my earnings then? Do you consider special requests to issue bank checks?

  • Camila on September 17th, 2008:

I have not received my card yet. :( pretty sad. Payoneer says that 2 cards have been lost in the mail. I really dont know what to do to get my card. Ben, help me out!!

  • Sunil on September 17th, 2008:

PayPal is the least hasslesome! Plz consider offering it as a payment option ASAP.

  • Russell Smith on September 18th, 2008:

    Just found this - http://eatmywords.typepad.com/eat_my_words_the_dish/2008/07/page/2/

It is some NameThis Kluster Hater…He rips on my name Beauternity…haha.

    What a loser.

  • Stacy Prince on September 18th, 2008:

@ Russell — I have to admit that SOME of this guy’s criticisms are valid (later he rips into some of my own not-so-excellent “winners”). BUT, and this is a big one, you have to consider the source: eatmywords.com exists to make money naming businesses for other people. We are his competition.

See his home page: http://www.eatmywords.com/ He named an ice cream brand “Frigid.” Uh…ick. A cleaning robot “Neato.” Then there’s “Cake Financial” (I think yellow cake, myself, a la Bush & Co.). Pot calling the kettle black much?

I would so love to see crowd-sourcing outperform (or at least go head to head with) “pro”s. I’m still praying for mythical beasts.

  • Stacy Prince on September 18th, 2008:

@ Mark Twain — You rock.

  • Jesse Hattabaugh on September 18th, 2008:

I think “Neato” is a decent name for a cleaning robot. Naming products is so much about spin and aesthetics, there is no name that will please everyone. It very much depends on the criteria that you judge the name on. For example perhaps the robot makers would like their robot to have a friendly cutesy name so it’s potential owners won’t fear reprisal from their robotic slave. For that reason I hope that y’all are integrating Kluster’s criteria system into NameThis. Whatever you end up doing, I’ve got my finger on the trigger of a website that needs naming as soon as you launch the next version.

  • Stacy Prince on September 18th, 2008:

@ Jesse — might be generational. To people my age, “neato” sounds very “square” (now how’s that for a dorky term?!). But my real beef is that neat and clean aren’t the same thing, and that the “gee whiz” aspect of the name “Neato” isn’t very likely to appeal to a woman (the most likely purchaser), who doesn’t find the task all that amusing. But you are very right that no name will please everyone. I’m sure I was partly reacting to his being so down on namethis. And we know why. :-)

I’m looking forward to the next version, too.
