file storage woes

by 20man - October 8th, 2008

Just a quick note if you’re wondering why we’re not up and around… one of our filesystem mounts is experiencing lengthy read/write times and is not serving files reliably.  We’ve been working on it feverishly… but we’re gonna be down for a little while longer.

For those of you running projects on our site, we will be giving you a credit for the time we’ve been down and then some.  I’ll update this post as soon as the troubles are over.

UPDATE: Things are back to normal. Credits to running projects are on the way.

so, around 10 hours ago namethis was down, but all we receive mail with the winenrs from “Online legal information service for small businesses”, then this morning the site was online again and this project available again.
somehow i though that this was so kind of error cause all votes i gave for some names were gone without trace.
few minutes before the time finish, i place some votes again and seams one of them was for “Legalysis ” and how i can see i have 1% of the stake, but no points nor cash…. but lets forget about that. my question is why all that when the winners are the same?!?!?

donno…. but for me, with all this new “points”, 30 votes, … supa-dupa “alghoritm”, namethis is starting to lose users…

sorry for posting this in the blog and in namethis project page

@Georgi: that project was set to end right around the time we started having problems. as a precaution, we disabled access to the site, however the application servers continued to function for a few minutes behind the scenes as we were diagnosing. In that window, the algo ran@ 3 p.m. EDT based upon the existing votes. So although your votes were recorded after the project re-appeared, they were not used in the judging.

  • Georgi on October 10th, 2008:

well, but whats happen with my existing votes? cause i score the Troys name and the third one (Legalysis)???
and why if the project was ended, then after these few hours of site down, the projects goes back online again?

  • Troy on October 10th, 2008:

what happened to the results of the 3 projects that have ended?

  • James Lacerenza on October 10th, 2008:

Yeah, what did happen with those projects?

I think the Klusterbot is eating projects

I don’t understand this silence, if there’s a problem i think you have to inform us.
    I’m asking about the last 4 or 5 no-awarded projects;
I’m asking to understand if you are still in life…
I hope u are working for a better namethis, but this silence worries me.

If I can I want to suggest you something: It’d be better if in the name proposed doesn’t appear the “name-maker”… I think the new arrived prefer to invest in a “Guru of a experience points” name than in a “normal experience points people”. Why? Because they think the ” investment ” is more sure.
I wanna remember that here we should vote the best name… not the best namers… ;-)
I think also ten names are enough to prove our skills.
    Am I wrong?

Hoping I was clear and you come back early, i say you goodnight.

When you click on your balance in your account, nothing shows up. No load card option or past debits or credits. Very odd. At least this is what I am seeing. Any problems? Where did my info go?

  • Troy on October 12th, 2008:

there are now 4 project without results posted. what’s going on? thanks.

    1. Hi kluster team, request(2) a name filter please…:) Anyone here ?
    Why ?
    a. I play to submitt “Egocede Travel” as a proposed name, ups, the system accepted it ? ulala…
    b. “Legal” keyword case. How prohibited keyword/name wins ?
    c. “Selene Sleep System” in “Premium Matress” accepted twice…(also happens to me back then, worst, the name (already) submitted by someone else)
    d. somebody spamming the system with absoluttely not related keyword
(James Gerber, promote grok and Pyramid, criticise the system)
    dude, I don’t think this not important…

    2. Allesio comment => I’m agree with the suggestion, I think blind submission is absolutely essential. And we need to establish a more social (if not democratic) system here. We have to “label” people for his/her experience not by point he/she made, but with a really-really and really (did I say really ?) good name. So this is not about quantity but more likely it’s quality. Thanks.

    3. Ouchh, one thing left : did I say really ?

  • Kristen on October 12th, 2008:

@Eric - I just loaded my card, and it all seemed to work. It says another 30 days till the next load, but I hope this isn’t really the case.

  • Matthew Cua on October 12th, 2008:

Same here I was able to load as well…but yeah I really hope I can get enough till Nov 17 so I can get the trend report :D

Hi kluster team, what’s up ? :) could you share with us ?

  • Georgi on October 13th, 2008:

    ooo noo again???

  • Matthew Cua on October 13th, 2008:

Maybe if everyone posts here and asks them what is going on…maybe one of them would reply ??

The Silence is killing me (though now that this sem is done…FREEEDOM!!)

    Questions from an inexperienced Namethis’er:

    1. In the thread above, John said: “1. Hi kluster team, request(2) a name filter please…:) Anyone here ?
    Why ?
    a. I play to submitt “Egocede Travel” as a proposed name, ups, the system accepted it ? ulala…”

I don’t understand what’s being said about “Egocede Travel” above… since the ‘Travel Agency’ was my name project, I definitely want to know folks’ thoughts, so can somebody (esp John?) clarify what the nature of that comment is? Why wouldn’t the system accept that name? etc.

Also, I logged in this morning hoping to see the results following the close fo the 48 hours; however, I can’t find any mention of my ‘Travel Agency’ project anywhere! I guess this is what is being dicsussed in this thread about the last four or five projects, but I want to be certain I’m not just using the system incorrectly… I paid my $149 and got lots of great feedback… now where are the final results and the list of the project in the archive, etc?

    Thanks in advance!!

  • John Tagged on October 13th, 2008:

    Hi William,
    1. Yap, when you submit a name then you’ll get feedback from the crowd. But this is for Project Owner, since we (as voter) didn’t know the vote distribution. So, if nobody submit “Egocede Travel” to the list, how do you (as Project Owner) know how many vote for it ? Yes ? Somebody must submit it first to the list.
    2. But in the other hand, for voters point of view, we compete to create a name or several name. My request to kluster team is “a name filter”, so nobody can take advantage from your name (Egocede Travel) by submit it to the list, under his/her proposed name. Your name should go to your property or a special name list proposed by project owner (which didn’t exist), not belongs to any voter proposed names. So, the question “why the system accepted it ?” means “It should go to a special list”. This is one of “a name filter” feature.
    3. As you can see at “Legal Online Project”, there are many project owner guidelines is disregarded by namers.
This is why “a name filter” is important. So I think. What do you think ?
